Az egyik legmeghatározóbb, legsokoldalúbb emberünket sikerült elpasszolni. Nem értem ez mire volt jó.
Ahogy Laci is írta Berglund mehetett volna, senki sem háborogna. Így egy töltelékkel több (már bocsánat a megfogalmazásért), de minőségi javulás vagy szinten tartás nem lett. Sajnos mi csak el kell fogadjuk, tenni nem tudunk ellene semmit.
A kaki már akkor elkezdődött, amikor Hitch aláírt egy újabb évet.

Fura, mert amilyen jól felépítette (papíron) Armstrong ezt a csapatot, annyira nem tudja megugrani az utolsó lécet, hogy valódi contenderek legyetek. Mondjuk egyik "részfeladat" sem könnyű, inkább az a meglepő hogy évek óta látszik hogy mi a gátja egy jó playoff runnak, mégsem csinál semmit, vagy csak lateral moveokat.
Lehet hogy hülyén hangzik egy Avsestől, de nem szívesen lennék Blues-drukker. Mi az elmúlt szűk egy évtizedben általában szarok vagyunk, ritkán reménykedünk már, nincs is nagy csalódás (most tudtunk újra egy igazán jót csalódni végre megint idén  ) Ti viszont az elmúlt 3-4 évben mindig egy papíron komplett csapattal, remek alapszakasszal mentetek neki a PO-nak, és rendre jött a pofára esés. Ezt nehezebb feldolgozni szerintem.

Igazad lenne, de a kontextus miatt nincs:
Armstrong még a draft előtt kijelentette, hogy
(1) Hisz abban, hogy ennek a keretnek még nyitva van a cup window
(2) Ezért ha lesz is csere, az hockey trade lesz, nem for futures (ezért nem adott el senkit a drafton, pedig azt kellett volna)
(3) Nem fog csak a csere kedvéért l'art pour l'art cserélni, akár a jövő deadlineig elmenne ezzel a csapattal, csak akkor nyúl hozzá, ha javulunk ezáltal

cserébe csak 500k-val keres többet (ráadásul a 4,175 millió több mint baráti), viszont még két prime évre szól (29-30.) míg Brouwer jövőre UFA
Pont ugyanakkora playoff chokerek: a felét hozzák az alapszakasz pontátlagnak...

I'm really happy to see old friend Chris Pronger voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. That's going to be a noisy induction ceremony; Pronger won't need a microphone when he gives his speech.
The ultimate honor for an NHL player reaffirms Pronger's true greatness. This selection was inevitable; the 6-6 Pronger stands tall among the best defensemen in NHL history.
Pronger was a towering figure on skates, all arms and legs and carrying a mean stick that gave opposing forwards reason to pause before they wandered into his space. With an extra-long reach, Pronger could easily pluck the puck from opponents or deliver a whack that made them stop in their tracks.
His name was Pronger.
At times he was an actual prong.
I can't imagine what it must have been like for forwards to park in front of the net or venture into the corner for loose pucks. They had to keep chins up and eyes open. They had to look over their shoulders. They had to be aware of Pronger's location at all times, because soon he'd be coming at them like a deranged giraffe.
Pronger was a Blue between 1995 and 2004, and I never covered a more tenacious competitor during my time in St. Louis. I'm talking about all sports; not just hockey. Pronger defended his territory with an all-out zeal. He made no friends out there and had enemies in every NHL arena.
This was no hack. Pronger's extreme saltiness was matched by his tremendous skill. And he was as smart as he was tough, making quick reads to disrupt the other side's advances into the offensive zone.
And when Pronger got possession of the puck with the chance to put the Blues on the attack, he'd rarely hesitate. Pronger knew exactly where to go to find the opening, and he'd thread accurate passes to send the Blues into the neutral zone and on their way.
Pronger did it all. Killing penalties ... and trying to kill opponents.
Working the point on the power play, looming over the offensive zone like the Eiffel Tower.
Mouthing off at the refs. Baiting foes into taking dumb penalties. Pronger's vocal chords never rested during a shift, and if he wasn't trying to slash an opponent into ribbons he'd cut them with his with his acerbic wit.
A true character.
An oversized kid. An oversized defenseman with an oversized personality.
An efficient machine that could control both ends of the ice with his physical presence and instinctive feel for the game.
I'll never forget being there the day Pronger was struck in the chest by a shot during a 1998 playoff game at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The missile fired by Dmitri Mironov hit Pronger at the spot of his heart, and the force of the blow took him down.
I'm not embellishing when I say Pronger ooked like a man that had just been felled by a bullet.
It was early in the third period of a game the Blues would lose 6-1, but no one on either side cared much about the score. There was genuine concern over Pronger's condition, with everyone in the building wondering if we'd see him get up. Joe Louis Arena had never been so quiet during a game ... and never will be.
After the game, Blues forward Blair Atcheynum described seeing Pronger flopped on the ice. The color had left Pronger's face. Pronger eyes were twitching. The Blues were horrified, scared, and unsure if this medical emergency would lead to an unimaginable ending. The worst possible ending.
"It's just frightening to see a man buckle like that," Atcheynum told reporters. "His eyes were rolled back in his head."
Pronger was wheeled out on a stretcher, and rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Blues trainer Ray Barile said Pronger lost consciousness on the ice for about 30 seconds, and during the blackout the Pronger heartbeat went weak.
"Emotionally, (Pronger) was pretty scared," teammate Geoff Courtnall said later that day. "It would scare anybody."
Blues physician Aaron Birenbaum said Pronger's heart stopped briefly. "It's not a common thing," the good doctor told reporters. "But when anyone is hit on the chest wall over the heart, it certainly can cause arrhythmia."
Here's the thing ...
In other sports, if an athlete gets taken down by a shot to the wall of his heart and loses consciousness, he'd miss a few weeks, maybe longer. Might be done for the year. Might retire.
Not Pronger.
Not this rugged piece of Canadian maple wood.
After a scheduled day off, Pronger remarkably returned to action 48 hours later to play the next game in the series. There were no limitations. He was the same, omnipresent and ornery Pronger. He still tried to use the stick as a chainsaw, cleared debris from the goal crease, made slick transition passes, and had an assist in the Blues' 3-2 loss.
That playoff series ended as most do for the Blues.
With a defeat that sent them home for the summer.
Same as it ever was.
But all wasn't lost. It was a pleasure to watch the Blues play _ well, at least until April.
Pronger and his fellow future Hall of Fame defenseman Al MacInnis were crossed swords that protected the Blues' net. With Brett Hull gone to Dallas as a free agent following the 1997-98 season, Pronger and MacInnis took ownership of the Blues' fortunes.
The elite defensemen were the Blues' most talented players, and the unquestioned leaders of a team expertly coached by Joel Quenneville.
MacInnis had the booming shot and the nickname "Chopper."
Pronger did most of the chopping.
MacInnis was the light, the beacon, the man with the radiant shot that could make the puck glow.
Pronger was the menacing dark-star, hovering with bad intentions.
They were an amazing contrast. And amazing players
The 1999-2000 Blues geared up to 114 points and won the President's Trophy as the NHL's best regular-season team. Pronger was named league MVP and was awarded with the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman.
The Blues' next four seasons produced 103, 98, 99 and 91 points.
How good were Pronger and MacInnis?
Between the 1997-98 and 2003-04 seasons, Pronger was a plus 143, and MacInnis was a plus 106. That's ridiculous.
In NHL history, I don't know how many teams had two defensemen on their roster that were as great as the Pronger-MacInnis duo.
Instead of marching toward a Stanley Cup, the top-seeded 2000 Blues went bust in the playoffs, upset by San Jose in the first round. A year later they made the Western Conference Final, but were taken out by Colorado. That was as close as the Pronger-MacInnis Blues would get to the elusive prize, the Stanley Cup.
As the 2003-2004 season wound down, an era was closing. And it happened so quickly we didn't have time to process it all.
MacInnis suffered an eye injury only three games into the schedule and missed the rest of the season. He would never play again.
The Blues foolishly fired Quenneville late in the season. But despite scapegoating an effective leader that would go onto become of the most accomplished coaches in league history the Blues got bounced in the first playoff round.
(That sad and surreal series, a pitiful loss to San Jose, is best remembered for the bizarre arrest of Blues' antagonist Mike Danton, who was charged with taking out a contract on the life of his agent. Instead of going through with it, the assigned hit man went to the police instead.)
Pronger played in all 82 games in 2003-2004 and had another strong season, scoring 14 goals with 40 assists. Little did we know at the time, but Pronger's time with the Blues was over.
The entire 2004-2005 NHL season was canceled because of a labor lockout. As the league prepared to reboot for 2005-2006, restless Blues owner Bill Laurie put the team up for sale.
Tired of losing money, and wanting to reduce payroll-related debt to make the Blues more attractive for potential buyers, the fed-up Laurie ordered team president Mark Sauer to do a destructive slash-and-burn on the team's payroll.
Pronger was traded to Edmonton in a hasty fire-sale transaction that brought three defensemen to St. Louis: Eric Brewer, Jeff Woywitka and Doug Lynch. In his quest to stem financial losses, the deal was a success for Laurie, who offloaded Pronger's large contract. In terms of the on-ice product, the deal was a disaster.
Pronger helped lead Edmonton to the 2006 Stanley Cup Final; the Blues finished that season with 21 wins and the fewest points (57) in the NHL.
Trying to find the next Pronger, the Blues' new ownership-management team chose defenseman Erik Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Johnson, a disappointment, was eventually traded to Colorado.
The postscript: Two picks after the Blues took Johnson, the Chicago Blackhawks drafted center Jonathan Toews, who went on to become the acclaimed captain and leader of the Quenneville-coached team that's won three Stanley Cups in the last six seasons.
Sigh. That's the way it goes around here.
After enduring so much postseason frustration, Pronger won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007. Finally, he broke through _ just like so many former Blues before him.
Unable to recover from a series of concussions, Pronger was forced to retire after his final season (2011-2012) with Philadelphia. He was 37, a caring husband and a father, and he refused to risk his long-term health by going back for more hockey collisions.
Pronger came to the Blues in a controversial deal made by the villainous Mike Keenan before the 1995-1996 season. Keenan sent the enormously popular power forward Brendan Shanahan to Hartford for Pronger, 21 and entering his third NHL season. Pronger was talented, but we heard rumblings about his immaturity, his wildness.
Blues fans hated the deal, but Pronger eventually won them over with his excellent all-around play, his contentious attitude, and his commitment to the St. Louis community.
In effect, Pronger grew up here. He arrived as bratty 21-year-old with the David Letterman gap-toothed smile, and evolved into a serious and mature leader of the franchise. Chris met his future wife, Lauren, in St. Louis. They had three kids, and settled down. The previous untamed Pronger was a family man and a captain.
It's a shame that Pronger never had the chance to sip from the Stanley Cup as a proud Blue, but his is a regrettable fate shared by every player that's worn The Note. We settle for Pronger giving us the best seasons of his Hall of Fame career, and that was special in its own way.
Pronger had Barclay Plager's toughness, Bob Plager's youthful and irreverent spirit, and the MacInnis smarts.
Blues fans can decide if Pronger is the best defenseman in franchise history, but please be careful how you vote. Pronger may be 40 years old and long retired, but you'd better believe that his elbows are still as sharp as his barbwire sense of humor.
After seeing him survive that crisis at Joe Louis Arena, you know that Pronger will always have abundant heart. Given Pronger's enthusiasm for yapping, I think the only thing that could really stop him is laryngitis.
I hope that one day soon, we'll see a No. 44 banner hang from the rafters at Scottrade Center. And it better have some faded bloodstains.
